Movie Review: The Electric State vs. Novocaine

 Which One Should You Watch?

I recently watched two Hollywood films—The Electric State (English version) and Novocaine—and if you’re wondering which one is worth your time, let’s break it down.

The Electric State: A Visually Stunning but Emotionally Hollow Sci-Fi

The Electric State delivers a visually immersive experience, with realistic sets and emotionally expressive robots. However, despite its massive ₹1500 crore budget, the film falls short in storytelling and screenplay. The Russo Brothers, known for their blockbuster hits, missed the mark this time.

The movie’s dystopian sci-fi adventure revolves around robots and their emotions, but it fails to make the audience truly connect with them. Chris Pratt’s performance feels repetitive—almost like a rehash of his Star-Lord role from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Given its weak execution and underwhelming box office performance (it barely touched ₹100 crore in theaters), it’s no surprise the film went straight to OTT.

Verdict: 2.5/5 – Decent visuals, but lacks emotional depth and strong storytelling.

Novocaine: A Gritty, Thrilling Ride with a Unique Twist

Now, Novocaine is a different beast altogether. This action-thriller follows Nathan Kane, a bank assistant manager who can’t feel pain due to a medical condition. When his girlfriend is kidnapped during a bank robbery, he uses his unique ability to take on the criminals.

The film starts slow, but once the heist kicks in, it shifts from a love story to a brutal, high-stakes thriller with dark humor. The performances are convincing, and the rated visuals add to its raw intensity. However, be warned—this isn’t a family-friendly movie. Some scenes are disturbing, and a few moments might make you uncomfortable if watched with parents.

Verdict: 3.5/5 – A gripping, well-executed thriller with a fresh concept, though not for the faint-hearted.

Final Recommendation

  • If you want a visually impressive but shallow sci-fi experience, stream The Electric State at home.
  • If you prefer a gritty, action-packed thriller, head to the theaters for Novocaine (or wait for its OTT release).
